As an integral component of the Palmdale
Group’s operations, the ongoing development of Palmdale Lawn
Cemetery & Memorial Gardens is an important part of our strategic
vision. Our intent is to continue to provide our community
with unique and attractive options in peaceful, harmonious
settings to honour and remember loved ones that have passed
away.
This project will see the renovation of the existing Hillside Gardens 4 & 5 incorporated with new memorial gardens and lawn cemetery sections. The new gardens will provide privacy and intimacy while retaining the feeling of the overall parklands.
The central feature of the landscape will be a dramatic natural waterfall and adjoining pond.
The renovation works are being undertaken as part of our commitment to the longevity of our existing parklands. They will include replacing the current timber edge with sandstone and a new, improved plant scheme with an established tree avenue. A concrete path surrounding the gardens allowing all weather access along with new seating will complete the renovation works.
The new gardens being constructed will provide
various memorialisation options including a new concept designed
to allow several generations of your family to be eternally
memorialized in the one location surrounded by beautiful
gardens and includes your own private courtyard.
In late June Palmdale Group General Manager
Barry Abrahams was joined by Stevens Group owner John Stevens
and Chairman John Dawson on the site of the new development
for the ceremonial ‘turning of the first sod’. A photographer
from the Central Coast Express Advocate was present on the
day and an accompanying article was published in the newspaper
on July 2nd. The article focused on the impending shortage
of burial plots in NSW as warned by the NSW government, and
how The Grove Development represents a positive step in Palmdale’s
long-term commitment to cater for burial needs of the Central
Coast community.
Construction will begin as soon as a development application is approved by Wyong Council.

Youth suicide is a great concern on the Central Coast and
is likely to touch the lives of many of us. In fact, our
region has one of the highest rates of youth suicide in Australia,
far higher than the national average.
In an effort to prevent suicide, the Iris foundation has been recently established under the Central Coast Community Chest Trust. “Iris” is the vision of light and the name commemorates two mothers who unselfishly nurtured their children and grandchildren with unconditional love and acceptance. The foundation is primarily focused on young people and their families but does not exclude any individuals identified as at risk.
The Palmdale Group recognise the value of such worthwhile community initiatives and are very proud to be a major sponsor of the Iris Foundation. To help the Foundation establish a solid base on the Central Coast, we have committed to providing financial support of $30,000 over three years. We are proud that our donation is the first corporate sponsorship that the Foundation has received, and we hope that other Central Coast businesses will follow our lead and assist in this worthy cause.

Palmdale Lawn Cemetery & Memorial Park was recently visited by a group of enthusiastic horticultural students from Ourimbah TAFE. The visit was part of an ongoing initiative that enables students to gain hands-on experience. The group, led by teacher Bruce Slade, was comprised of more than 20 students.
With upwards of a thousand roses and dozens of varieties across over 50 different gardens, Palmdale has arguably the largest collection of roses on the Central Coast – making it the perfect environment for these students to learn more about their craft.
Pruning maintains the health of the plant and also helps to produce better blooms. The ability to prune properly is a much needed skill in horticulture - badly pruned plants can often become diseased or grow in undesirable ways. One of Palmdale’s Horticulturists, Paul Stewart, and Bruce Slade demonstrated to students how best to prune rose bushes in order to achieve optimal results. After the demonstration, the students set to work pruning an extensive area of our Rose Gardens.
As an opportunity to further their training, Palmdale Lawn
Cemetery & Memorial Park will continue to offer students
this hands-on experience at various times throughout the
year.
